Contest Artwork Dimensions

Artwork for contests may be submitted in two layouts: Front Cover Only or Wrap-Around Cover.

Front Cover Only

The final dimensions of the front cover of any volume of Spark are 6 inches wide by 9 inches high with a 1/8-inch bleed. Regardless of the actual size of your original, the ratio of dimensions (width to height) of your artwork entry should be approximately 2:3.

When entering a work in a contest, you may not wish to provide high-resolution files. However, please make sure Front Cover Only entries are at least 600 pixels wide and 900 pixels high. A 300 ppi (or better) version of the winning entry will be requested after the contest prize has been awarded.

An example of Front Cover Only artwork is the cover of Volume I by Aaron John Gregory, which you can find in our Cover Gallery. The dimensions of the original inked drawing are 11 inches wide by 17 inches high.

Wrap-Around Cover

The final dimensions of the full, wrap-around cover of any volume of Spark vary depending on the width of the spine, but are approximately 12.5 inches wide by 9 inches high with a 1/8-inch bleed. Regardless of the actual size of your original, the ratio of dimensions (width to height) of your artwork entry should be approximately 2:3.

When entering a work in a contest, you may not wish to provide high-resolution files. However, please make sure Wrap-Around Cover entries are at least 1250 pixels wide and 900 pixels high. A 300 ppi (or better) version of the winning entry will be requested after the contest prize has been awarded.
